Welcome
to the
Dearborn
Heights Raiders
Come in, sign in, and join in the Dearborn Heights Raider
Football and Cheerleading tradition. The organization provides an athletic
outlet for the youth of our city, keeping them on the field and involved in
healthy pursuits within a structured program. We are open to youth from
other cities but there are some restrictions.
Our football team is comprised of boys and girls, separated
into three different squads based on age and weight. All players must be
8-13 years of age prior to Dec. 1st of the calendar year. Our cheerleading
squads are also separated by the same age restrictions but we have children
younger then eight serving as mascots.
Our season begins mid August and ends the second weekend of
November if any of the squads were to make it to the Championship Game. We
usually play one or two preseason scrimmage games, then eight regular season
games. Our regular season games are played on Sat. or Sun., home games at
Parkland Park or Crestwood H.S. and away games are played in the different
cities within the Downriver Junior Football League. Playoffs and
Championship games follow the end of the regular season, played in previously
selected cities within the League.
Football and Cheerleading begin practicing in mid August, six
days a week for the first two weeks for conditioning, we then drop to four days
a week plus Game Day. The teams practice four days in a row prior to Game
Day, therefore depending on a Sat. or Sun. game, we will have Sun. & Mon. or
Mon. & Tue. off for a particular week.
Cheerleaders have their own version of a Championship, called
Competition. In early Nov. squads from around the league gather to compete
in a cheer/gymnastic competition. A great culmination to their hard work
and dedication throughout the year.
